Sober Striver to
Empowerment &
Possibility
Lisa, early 2005
I grew up around alcohol and by the naughties I was drinking to have fun, socialise and relax, and while everything appeared great on the outside, it wasn't on the inside. I was caught in a cycle of working hard and then drinking, undoing all the hard work I'd put into my career, relationships, and fitness. Despite going weeks without drinking at times, I'd soon slide back into my old habits.
If I Wanted My Future To Change, I Had To Change
But I couldn't get the support I needed. People would say,
'You don't have a drink problem, why would you stop drinking?', 'Just have one!' or 'You work hard, you deserve it!'
My alcohol-free curiosity was seen as self-punishment, but I knew a break from drinking meant more opportunities. When asked to be a practice client for a friend's life coaching course, I jumped at the chance and began experimenting with alcohol-free living.
THE BREAK THAT
CHANGED MY LIFE
Everything Changed When I Took a Longer Break From Drinking
Everything changed when I took a longer break from drinking. I fell in love with personal development, trained as an NLP practitioner with Dr. Richard Bandler, and quickly started coaching others. I redirected the time, money, and energy from my drinking lifestyle into other areas of my life. During a talk I gave on alcohol-free living, a woman said,
'Alcohol's like paint stripper; it slowly takes from you, leaving you with less than you thought you'd have.'
Her words hit home, making me realise that the consequences of my drinking lifestyle had worsened over the years. I knew if I spent the next decade doing the same as I had the previous decade, I wouldn't be able to create the life and future I truly wanted.
My mission is to show as many women as possible how amazing being alcohol-free can be.
I've trained in various modalities (NLP, EFT, Somatics) to facilitate smoother transitions to alcohol-free living and personal transformation for my clients. I've deepened my understanding through further academic study in personal development, neuroscience, and the nervous system, completing my master's level at university.
Being Alcohol-free Wasn't an Inconvenience - It Was A GIFT
Especially the simple things like being in the moment during story time with my son, walks in nature with my whippet or a spa days with friends. Being alcohol-free means having more of everything else. And when spending quality time with loved ones, whether it's water skiing, dining out, or running a marathon, I'm fully present, enjoying every moment without thinking about whether to drink or not. I feel liberated, saving time and energy by not drinking or being hungover.
Alcohol Controlled My Emotions, My Moods & My Energy Levels
Alcohol negatively impacted my relationships, life, and work. Today, knowing how to control and change my emotional state has been a positive game-changer in my life.
I say to women who are thinking of taking a break from their drinking lifestyle, that I wish I could transport them into the future to experience how they would feel with distance from alcohol. While I don't have a magic time machine, I do know how to help you implement game-changing tools and techniques that will empower you and let you see what's possible for you.
These days...
I live in the UK with my fiancé, our little boy, and our whippet.
I love spending quality time with family and friends, traveling, walking in nature, and exploring new restaurants, English tea rooms, and coffee shops.
I enjoy reading about neuroscience, positive psychology, human behaviour, and human potential.
I like (but limit) scrolling time for Rightmove .
